Efficient ICT 2011: Greener Government

Wednesday 14th September 2011 - QEII Conference Centre, London

Efficient ICT, Greener Government 2011

NetMotion Wireless will be a sponsor and exhibiting again this year at Efficient ICT Greener Government 2011 on the 14th September 2011 www.efficient-ict-conference.co.uk

Last years exhibition,  Government ICT Goes Green 2010; proved to be a sell-out event, with 350 delegates from central and local government, private and third sector who came together to discuss the latest Government strategy for efficiency and the green agenda.

With the Cabinet Office launch of the Government's ICT strategy recently, the priority areas for ICT have been outlined. The key theme is around delivery of better public service for less cost. To achieve this, the Government looks to strong leadership in order to push through the following:

  • 'Agile' project delivery
  • Secure Mobile Working
  • Cloud Computing
  • Re-use and sharing of ICT assets
  • Lowering Carbon Output
  • Encouraging small to medium enterprises to participate in the ICT programme

Also being developed over the coming months are a Green ICT Strategy and an ICT Asset register. Further, the Government ICT Strategy promises an Implementation Strategy to be delivered by the newly formed CIO Council.

Efficient ICT, Greener Government 2011 this year welcomes to the plenary stage confirmed speaker Joe Harley, Government CIO, who has been instrumental in driving the strategy forward.

Whilst efficiency savings are taking precedent, they are closely coupled with ensuring a green and sustainable agenda. Where the above points have led the way in innovative Government ICT, they also offer great opportunities for a more joined up service, cheaper delivery and large scale energy efficiency going forward.

Commitments have been made towards the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme to reduce carbon output, as monitored by the Environment Agency (Confirmed speaker), and DEFRA (Confirmed speaker), who have set a number of standards in ICT procurement - including an EU commitment for 50% of relevant tendering procedures across the public sector to be "green". Cabinet Office and DECC are also looking to spread best practice through the public sector, as outlined in The Carbon Plan.
