Motorola teams up with NetMotion Wireless Ltd
supply parking enforcement officers with secure mobile VPN solution

February, 2010

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - 9. February 2010 - Motorola Inc. today announced, together with NetMotion Wireless Ltd to supply Westminster City Council with a comprehensive rollout of Motorola MC75 Enterprise Digital Assistants (EDAs) with wireless communications secured by NetMotion's Mobility XETM mobile VPN. The solution will be used by community enforcement officers throughout the city of Westminster.

Motorola and NetMotion Wireless worked together to secure the contract, the largest of its kind in the U.K., which will see over 300 high speed (3.5G GSM HSDPA) MC75 handheld devices rolled out to staff over the next few months replacing the entire existing inventory of handheld devices.

"Traditionally, officers carry a number of different devices with them in order to complete their jobs effectively, including radio, camera, mobile telephone and a portable printer," said Kevin Goad, head of Commissioning, City Management Group SRM Parking and Highways, Westminster City Council. "We wanted to combine a number of these elements in one cost effective, affordable and future proofed handheld solution that was also rugged and lightweight. Motorola's MC75 fit the bill perfectly, instantly modernizing our aging technology and helping our teams on the ground to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively."

Parking enforcement officers are equipped with enhanced, secure and real-time connections to the back-end system from their handheld device. They are able to roam seamlessly between the most cost-effective available networks without requiring any extra end user involvement. With such sensitive information at stake security is paramount and the inclusion of multi-factor authentication protection, which fully complies with government security standards, prevents data security breaches.

The final product selection was made following an intensive ten-week period of evaluation alongside competing products that were tested for functionality and usability.

"We are delighted to have won this important strategic contract to supply mobile handheld devices to Westminster City Council," said Iain Clarke, MSSI vice president and sales director, Western Europe, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, Motorola. "Officers will benefit not only from efficiency gains but also the new technologies that the Motorola devices will allow to be implemented including automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) software and push-to-talk capability."

"Westminster joins our ever growing community of Local Authority customers who have met the dual needs of security and productivity using our mobile VPN product," said Stef Coetzee, senior vice president for NetMotion Wireless.

NetMotion's Mobility XE empowers Westminster's IT administrators with a system-wide view of device activity, including application use, device connections, bandwidth consumption, wireless network status, battery life and much more. With Mobility XE, administrators can customize policies to better manage application and network access, quarantine lost or stolen devices, and prioritize bandwidth for critical transmissions and applications.

Both Motorola and NetMotion Wireless are already working with a number of councils across the country on different projects and hope that others will see the clear benefits of using mobile enterprise technology, such as cost reductions and efficiency gains.
